I make a wide range of pots and lidded boxes some of which are exhibited here in Showcase – Boxes and Pots. Here at Crescent. Woodcraft I use a variety of timbers both exotic tropical ones as well as locally sourced hardwoods. In addition I also combine different materials to give interesting and contrasting effects.Other features that I employ are decorative piercing in the lids to give additional interest and also enable me to personalise the work for customers.
I turned three lidded trinket boxes in Padauk, an exotic tropical hardwood. When first exposed to air this wood is a striking red colour but over time it mellows to give the work a rich exotic feel.
A keepsake box ideal for safely storing those small personal treasures. It has a hard wearing melamine lacquer and dulled prior to waxing for a satin sheen. This is the largest of the three boxes.
Turned in Padauk, a tropical hardwood and given a dulled melamine finish and finally waxed. When first exposed to air Padauk is a striking red colour but mellows over time to give a rich exotic feel.
This is the smallest of the lidded trinket boxes. Turned again in Padauk, the colour is a rich, deep red. Adulled melamine lacquer has been applied and finally waxed to give that warm glow.
You could put this pretty little box to any number of uses.I have pierced the maple lid with a decorative leaf motif.Contrastingly the base has been turned in bubinga a dense tropical hardwood.I then applied a hardwearing dulled lacquer and finally waxed to give the work a warm, soft sheen.
Once again I have embellished the lid with a leaf motif. The maple is inset into the cherry to form the lid and the base has again been turned in cherry. I burnished the pot and also waxed it to give a mellow patina.
Turned in Bubinga andSycamore this pretty little trinket box is ideal for keeping those odds and ends in.It has been burnished and waxed to give a soft sheen finish.
