Warwickshire Open Studios organises art and design events each year throughout the county.  It was launched in 2000 and attracts many thousands of visitors.  A regular event is an Open Studios festival that usually takes place in June – July.  I am a registered member of this organisation and will participate in the 2023 event at Alexandra Arts in Rugby along with about another 18 artists and makers.

Alexandra Arts is a new venue in Rugby, Warwickshire.  It was created in Feb 2022 from a former public house, The Alexandra Arms.  Warwickshire Open Studios in 2023 will be hosted here in the summer and in addition the Alex runs a programme of exhibitions and events throughout the year.  It is supported by the Rugby Artists & Makers Network of which I am a member.  Click the link to see the current programme of events.

 Frequently asked  questions:

Q.  Where can I find more information about the different timbers that you use?

A.   I find a useful source of information is “The Wood Database.”  You can search online at:  https://www.wood-database.com

Q.  Why can’t I purchase the pieces that you create through your website?

A.  I sell my items through an Arts and Crafts shop, Folksy.

You will find this organisation at:  https://folksy.com/shops/CrescentWoodcraft

Q.  Where do you get you materials from.

A.  I try to find my timber locally as far as possible from sustainable sources.  This is not possible for tropical hardwoods but there are          reputable  companies nationally.  I also find timber, say from discarded furniture and recycle it.

Q.  How can I maintain the finish on these items.

A.  This will depend upon the type of finish.  Pieces that are food safe will either have been oiled or lacquered.  Each piece will declare         what type of finish has been used.  If oiled simply wipe them clean and ccasionally apply a sparing drop of mineral oil.  Items that           have been lacquered can be washed in warm water but not immersed.

Other items are usually waxed and will simply require an occasional application of a silicone free wax polish
